The violet is the traditional Valentine's Day flower, as it celebrates modesty, virtue, faithfulness, humility, and possible happiness. It is said to have become the Valentine's Day flower because a Chrisitan priest, Saint Valentine, used to write love notes using ink created from the violets he grew.
Violets are well know to the 17th century as well. Violets were the favorite perfume of Napoleon Bonaparte's wife, Josephine. When she passed, he picked bouquets of the lovely flower to place upn her grave. Later on, when Napoleon was exiled, he chose the code name Caporal Violette.
Today, states New Jersey, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Rhode Island all have the violet as their state flower. It is a symbol of good luck for a women -- and should you dream about a violet? It means success and achievement to soon come.
